Also musste ich unterwegs anhalten, schauen, neu planen. 323,3 km | 4169 hm | 15:44 h in Bewegung NP 161 W | 327 Trainingsbelastung --- TCR Day 9 - Parcours 1A and close to 1B Day 9 at the Transcontinental Race. After the first hotel night of the race, I rolled out of Prudnik again. Dry, washed, with a little more order in the system, and with a clear task for the day: ride Parcours 1A first, then get as close as possible to Parcours 1B. After about 66 kilometres, the parcours began. Before that there was a beautiful descent, then I ate everything I still had before the climb. Sugar in, energy in, ballast out. At the same time I noticed that my water was already running low. Maybe half a litre left. Not ideal, but I deliberately wanted to go into the parcours light. Then the climb began. And that is exactly what these Lost Dot parcours are for: beautiful, special, but also brutally demanding. The first part was wonderful. Climbing up, over the top, hardly any traffic, closed road, then another really beautiful descent. These sections are something special. At the bottom I almost came out at the same place I had passed before. Then the second part of 1A began. That one was serious. First beautiful asphalt, then the surface kept getting worse. Asphalt with gravel, proper gravel, steeper and steeper, and rough loose stone at the top. Just before the final climb came the concrete slabs. I pushed the last section because it simply no longer made sense to ride it. At the top everything was in fog. No view, but at least a non-alcoholic beer and two friendly girls at the stand. They asked whether I was really continuing to Greece now. I said: “Yes.” They looked at each other, shook their heads and said something in Czech. I understood nothing, but the scene fit this race perfectly. The descent afterwards was great again. That alone made the whole climb worth it. At the bottom, though, I was pretty empty: water basically gone, food gone, reserves gone. I urgently needed a supermarket. Then rain arrived as well, so I had to put the phone away and just keep working. Only after that came the longer section on the big road. And that was genuinely nice. Tailwind, good surface, cars giving enough space, and finally the feeling of really moving forward. I put up the big sail and sailed. My planning was still not completely clean. One larger road I had intended to continue on was closed to bicycles. So I had to stop, check, and re-plan on the road. On Follow My Challenge I saw that Gemberle was heading roughly the same way, so I followed his line. It worked, but it cost time and mental energy. In the end, the tactic was clear: do not ride into Parcours 1B completely destroyed, but get as close as possible, sleep, and start the next morning with a better neck and more energy. The campsite about 50 kilometres before the parcours was simply too tempting. In a race like this, you do not only gain by always riding on. Sometimes the right decision is to stop in time, so the next hard section is not already lost before it even begins. 323.3 km | 4169 m | 15:44 h moving NP 161 W | 327 training load
